Jihad Darwiche was born in 1951 in Marwaniyé, a small village in the south of Lebanon. His childhood has been nestled in stories, poetry and traditional oriental tales told him by his mother and the neighbourhood women. He studied in Bayreuth and then Montpellier. He worked as a journalist in Lebanon from 1975 to 1983. Once back in France he first worked as an Arab language teacher before becoming a storyteller in 1984. Since then he animates storytelling nights where the wonder of 1001 Arabian nights, wisdom and smiles all commingle. He also performs in libraries, schools or prisons – so many places where he animates writing workshops, art workshops as well as storytelling classes.
