Algerian artist born in Dugny in 1970, he grew up in Garges-les-Gonesses/Sarcelles. Abdelkader Franck Attia was raised in the cosmopolitan and multicultural world of cities that have large African, Maghrebi, Muslim and Jewish communities. After obtaining his diploma from the Duperré school (1993) and a one-year stay in Barcelona’s School of Arts (1994), he went to the Congo for two years. In 1997, back in Paris, he finalised La Piste d’Atterrissage (2000), a slideshow on the lives of transsexual Algerians exiled in Paris at the time their country was torn by civil war. Since then his works oscillate between installations (La machine à rêve, Biennale de Venise 2003 and l’Atelier clandestin, Art Basel Miami 2004), video (Shadow, Vidéo Zone, Tel Aviv 2004, Oil and sugar, Kunstart, Neuchâtel, 2007) and photography (Alter Ego, Sketch Gallery Londres 2005). His projects, such as The Loop or Infinities presented at Art Basel in 2005 and 2006 or even Fortune Cookies in Canton, China bear witness to the eclectic character of his work. Between 2005 and 2008, and on all continents, he exposed artwork that leans more and more towards abstraction.
